Dark mode is becoming very popular, and manufacturers are adding system-wide support for that, and in the first party app too. Google has already added Dark Themes to apps like Contacts, YouTube, and soon it’s coming to support Google Keep and Google Calendar applications. Even the Facebook-owned Instant Messaging app is working on whatsapp dark theme, and recently the beta app has been seen.
Whatsapp allegedly said it would be Night mode, and it was recently worked on Android Beta version 2.19.139. However, support for this was limited to the app call and status pages. However, as told by WABetaInfo, Night mode dark theme has also been extended to other sections of the app. It was spotted in beta version 2.19.145.
In these sections, group information pages, contact information pages and on the page where you start a new conversation / group. However, as you can see from screenshots shared by WABetaInfo, in the group information page, the implementation seems to be half baked, only at the top half, while the lower half still works.
In addition, the latest beta includes 155 new redesigned emojis, where instant messaging platform is doing some cosmetic changes in old emoji. Some of them will see changes in layout, while others will get a totally new look from scratch. Whatsapp has not yet made it official, but in the coming weeks, new emoji and dark mode public rollouts are expected.
In a recent update, Whatsapp also disabled the option to save profile pictures. The company has recently mentioned that it will carry out the last update for the Windows Phone app in June, and will end support for the same in December 2019. Recently, Whatsapp discovered a bug in voice calling where spyware was allegedly installed on the phone. The company was quick to rollout updates to address and fix the bug.
